Care Group Highlight

Thursday, 13 October 2011 13:54

Each month we will highlight one of the various Care Groups at MSCC. Our hope is that these highlights might help you find a place to connect and grow as you develop deeper relationships with others in the body of Christ. You can check out all of the groups by visiting our Care Group Ministry page, but this month we would like to introduce you to the "Prime Time Care Group"...

Prime Time Care Group

1) What are some of the best group studies you've done and what made them great? The study of "Daniel" by Beth Moore (current study), "If You Want to Walk On Water, You Have To Get Out Of The Boat" by John Ortberg; "Just Walk Across The Room" by Bill Hybels; The Nooma Video Series; the book "Heaven" by Randy Alcorn (some liked this, some did not).
2) What service projects have you done in years past or are you planning to do any service projects this year?We have not really done any service projects in the past, but we are in deep discussion about the type of service we want to do and how we could best utilize the demographic and experience in our group.
3) What kind of social gatherings/hangout time do you enjoy as a group? Some of the fun, social gatherings that we have done in the past have been bowling; eating out at a restaurant; BBQ’s at someone’s house; going to a movie. We try to do some type of social every monthapart from our study, schedules permitting.
4) How do you serve each other in your group? We serve each other in our group by prayer for individual needs; checking in with each other regularly outside of our meetings; making dinners for members who may be sick, etc.
5) What is the typical 'format' of your group...what does a typical care group night look like?We start at 7 pm and usually finish the study around 8:45 pm. Our typical group night starts with eating together and then we have any general announcements, followed by individual prayer requests. Those have been great to watch over time, as people have really opened up and really shared about their lives and what is going on. After we pray for the requests andgive thanks for the praises, we start the study we are doing. Typically we are at one member’s house for an entire month and that person leads the study. We rotate to another home/leader each month. We find this to be really good because it takes some of our members out of their comfort zone when they have to lead. We see each person growing because of it.
6) Is there a cool group story you'd like to share...how God used your group or someone in your group to touch someones life? One of our cool group stories involves a man from the congregation and his family. At Christmas time awhile back, his family was financially hurting and our group came together and gave them all they needed for Christmas. He wrote us a letter, thanking us for all we had done for them. That was one of our more meaningful stories…
